About Me

Thomas Skinner

Hi and welcome to my blog! My name is Thomas Skinner and I am a relatively recent transplant to Las Vegas, NV - along with my wife and two children. It’s a lot hotter here than we’re used to (being from Utah), but so far we like it a lot.

I spend most of my day hours working for a software company called Agilix Labs, Inc. I have worked for Agilix for over four six years and it has been a great place to work. Agilix makes some pretty cool software for students, such as GoCourse, Backpack, GoBinder, and BrainHoney.

Prior to Agilix I was with MingleMatch, Inc., which was acquired by Spark Networks in early 2005 (after I left). That was a fun experience and was where I grew to really enjoy online marketing.

Before MingleMatch I was at Communitect, which is now known by the name of its flagship product, SmileReminder (I came up with the name!). That was a fun place to work. I’m glad to see they are doing great.

And my first real job before Communitect was at MyFamily.com, which is now known as The Generations Network. Of course, when I started working there in 1997 (13th employee), it was known as Ancestry Publishing (then Ancestry.com, then MyFamily.com, now The Generations Network). Overall that was a very good experience and I was able to develop some good friendships there that have continued to this day.

Nowadays, I used to spend a little bit of my time consulting in the online marketing and SEO arena, building websites, and dabbling with various business ideas, but that was before law school.

In 2008 I decided to go back to school (crazy, I know!) and study law. I attend the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law, so I now spend most of my “free” time and evening hours in class, reading cases, or trying to memorize elements of law.

I try to spend most of the balance of my time with my family hanging out, watching movies, eating junk food (not too much), and swimming in the pool, which is always tons of fun - especially with the kids at the ages they are now.

The time I have left over is usually spent filling church assignments, reading, and dabbling more on the computer. :)
