Utahns Say No to School Vouchers
By TLS | November 7, 2007
Well, it’s official. Utahns voted down the school voucher program. Read more here. That’s too bad. I think it would have given parents more choices with regards to their children’s education. Oh well… What can I say except that’s the way it goes in a democracy…

School Vouchers in Utah
By TLS | November 1, 2007
My family and I just moved away from Utah a few months ago. Prior to that I lived there for about 15 years. My wife and I went to college there and our children went to public elementary school. We have seen the educational system play out first hand. All in all it’s not terrible, but there are problems, such as burgeoning class sizes, a tendency to focus all teaching efforts on the lowest common denominator, and so forth…
So one thing that would help lower class size and give parents a choice when it comes to the education of their children is the school voucher system. I have a hard time understanding why this is so controversial. It has become a political battle, but why? This makes sense in every way.
If you don’t know the basics, read this article.
Utahns are getting ready to vote on whether or not to move forward with this program. I hope they vote ‘yes’ to vouchers! Little do Utahns realize, but this vote is being watched by many states across the country. Make the right choice for our kids. Vote for vouchers!

Judgment Day for the Whackos
By TLS | October 31, 2007
I’m so glad to see this verdict come through. What a disgrace to Christianity these psychos are! For those who don’t know this is the group that travels around to funerals of fallen soldiers protesting with vulgar and disgusting signs that say things like “God Hates America” etc…
I hope this verdict sticks and I hope more families that have been rudely disgraced by these people sue them, too!
Justice is finally served!

Beware of Math Taught in Public Schools
By TLS | October 29, 2007
Without a doubt I support public schools. I am the product of public schooling and I think I turned out just fine. I think our founding fathers were right when they suggested that an educated populace is necessary to preserve democracy, encourage innovation, and so forth.
But time and time again I come across things that just boggle my mind. Does anyone else see that we are hurting our kids when we teach to the lowest common denominator or when we teach so called “reformed” methods.
Check out this video on Math. It’s kind of long (just over 15 minutes), but well worth it. My advice to you? Make sure your kids are taught math using the standard algorithms.

An Impossible Football Play
By TLS | October 29, 2007
If you haven’t seen this play yet then you have to check it out. This will probably never happen again. Trinity visiting Millsap for the Division III championship game comes from behind by scoring a touchdown on the last play of the game made possible by fifteen (yes 15!) laterals.
This is crazy! Check it out.
